“ the post­ritual becomes a space of contradiction, where reverence and negligence co­exist, as beauty and toxicity become entangled, and the cyclical return to the land is inseparable from its ecological burden. Within the framework of worship in Durga Puja, the conceptual post­ritual is a constitutive part of the cycle itself. The idols return to water; the structures do not vanish; they are dismantled, repurposed, abandoned, or absorbed into another economy of use. The flowers, fabrics, ropes, paints, and supporting frameworks all enter another temporal register once ritual attention leaves them. They cease to function as symbols in the same way they held a sacred charge, but they do not cease to exist. They persist materially and environmentally, taking on different affective forms. The post­ritual, then, is the ongoing action that follows a symbolic closure. “
